Your Medigap Open Enrollment Window

Six months that shape everything after them.

About 5 minute read

Overview

Your Medigap open enrollment period begins the first month you are both 65 or older and enrolled in Part B, and it runs for six months.

How it works

During this window a carrier cannot deny you a policy or charge you more because of your health history.

What to watch for

Once the window closes, applying usually means answering health questions, and a carrier may decline or rate the application.

What to do next

This is the single most time-sensitive item in Medicare planning, and it is why anyone turning 65 on or after October 1, 2026 should start preparing now.
