Overview
Plan N covers the same core items as Plan G with three differences: you pay the Part B deductible, you may pay up to a small copay for some office and emergency room visits, and Plan N does not cover Part B excess charges.
How it works
Excess charges apply only when a provider does not accept Medicare assignment, and several states prohibit them entirely. Whether that matters depends on where you live and who you see.
What to watch for
In exchange, Plan N typically carries a lower monthly premium than Plan G. Over a decade that difference can be meaningful.
What to do next
Plan N tends to suit people who are comfortable with small predictable copays in return for a lower fixed monthly cost.
