Overview
A Medicare Supplement policy is private insurance that pays after Original Medicare pays. It does not replace Medicare; it fills defined gaps in what Medicare leaves behind.
How it works
Because benefits are standardized by plan letter, a Plan G from one carrier covers the same things as a Plan G from another carrier. What differs is premium, rate history, underwriting, and service.
What to watch for
You keep Original Medicare. You keep access to any provider in the country who accepts Medicare. There are no networks and no referrals.
What to do next
A Medigap policy is a separate monthly premium in addition to your Part B premium. What you buy is predictability.
